Can I cook and bake with SPLENDA® ESSENTIALS� No Calorie Sweetener Products?
While this product was not specifically developed for cooking and baking, sucralose, the sweetening ingredient in all SPLENDA® Sweetener Products retains its sweetness in high temperatures. We would expect to see some losses in the potency of the vitamins in the product with the heat exposure involved in cooking and baking. However these vitamin potency losses would not be greater than what you would see normally when cooking or baking foods that contain vitamins.

How do vitamins B1 (thiamin), B5 (pantothenic acid) and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) affect metabolism?
Vitamins B1 (thiamin), B5 (pantothenic acid) and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) support the metabolism of the macronutrients: fat, carbohydrate, and protein.1 The vitamins themselves are never a source of energy, rather they are involved in facilitating the release of energy from the energy-yielding nutrients. 2 Thiamin supports the metabolism of carbohydrates. Pantothenic Acid and Vitamin B6 support the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins.
What does vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) do in the body?
Vitamin B6 performs a wide variety of functions in the body and is essential for good health. This vitamin is needed for more than 100 enzyme reactions involved in protein metabolism. It is also essential for the nervous and immune systems to function efficiently, and for red blood cell metabolism. Hemoglobin within red blood cells carries oxygen to tissues. The body needs vitamin B6 to make hemoglobin and this vitamin also helps to increase the amount of oxygen carried by hemoglobin.
Are SPLENDA® ESSENTIALS� No Calorie Sweetener Products suitable for people with diabetes?
Yes. All SPLENDA® No Calorie Sweetener Products are suitable for people with diabetes. Sucralose, the no-calorie sweetening ingredient in all SPLENDA® ESSENTIALS� No Calorie Sweetener Products is not a carbohydrate and has been shown in studies to have no effect on blood glucose control or insulin levels.
Like other no-calorie sweeteners on the market, the SPLENDA® ESSENTIALSâ?¢ No Calorie Sweetener with Antioxidants and with B Vitamins Products contain small amounts of carbohydrate (less than 1 gram per serving) that provide needed volume and texture. These common food ingredients, which include maltodextrin and dextrose, add so few calories per serving that both products meet the Food and Drug Administration’s criteria for no-calorie foods (less than 5 calories/serving). In a meal plan for people with diabetes, up to 4 packets of SPLENDA® ESSENTIALSâ?¢ No Calorie Sweetener with Antioxidants or with B Vitamins Products, are considered a “free food.” The American Dietetic Association and the American Diabetes Association consider a free food to be any food or beverage that contains less than 20 calories and 5 grams or less of carbohydrate per serving.
In addition to the sucralose, SPLENDA® ESSENTIALSâ?¢ No Calorie Sweetener with Fiber contains soluble fiber which is metabolized by the body and therefore needs to be accounted for in a diet for diabetes. Up to three packets of SPLENDA® ESSENTIALSâ?¢ No Calorie Sweetener with Fiber counts as a “free food” in a diet for diabetes. If a person with diabetes chooses to consume more than this in one sitting, they simply need to carbohydrate count for it.
Can SPLENDA® ESSENTIALS� No Calorie Sweetener Products be used by children?
Yes, SPLENDA® Brand Sweetener (sucralose), the sweetening ingredient in SPLENDA® ESSENTIALSâ?¢ No Calorie Sweetener Products can be used by everyone, including children. However the daily dietary fiber, vitamin and caloric needs of children are different than adults. A child’s diet should be adjusted to meet his or her individual needs. If you have questions about your child’s diet /nutritional needs, please check with his or her doctor.
